Hard water leaves mineral deposits on everything it touches. When hard water is heated beyond 60C (140F) the minerals leave the water more rapidly, which is why kettles, dishwashers, washing machines, hot water tanks and tankless units suffer the most when hard water is present.

I live in Calgary. Should I have a water softener?
