Shawnessy
I’m Ben Newman. Shawnessy is one of the areas we’re in most weeks.
Poly-B is grey plastic water pipe, and it went into a great many Calgary houses built between 1978 and 1997.
It fails. Not every house and not tomorrow, but it fails, and it tends to let go while nobody’s home.
Insurers know all about it. Some won’t write a policy on a house that still has it, and a buyer’s inspector will look for it before almost anything else.
Look at the pipes around the walls and ceiling of your mechanical room. If they’re grey with copper crimp rings on the fittings, that’s poly-B.
If that’s what you’ve got, call us and we’ll tell you honestly what your options are and what they involve. Finding out on a Tuesday is a great deal better than finding out when a buyer’s inspector puts it in a report three days before your condition date.
Water heaters going at fifteen years. Furnaces of the same vintage as the house. The usual blocked kitchen lines, faucets and toilets.
